Nizar Al Herakey currently serves as the Syrian Ambassador to the State of Qatar since 2013 and he is an active member of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces. Mr. Al Herakey holds a degree in electrical engineering from the Aleppo University and several degrees and diplomas in different fields, such diplomatic and parliamentary work and Islamic Law studies. Prior to his assignment, Mr. Al Herakey was active in the political arena even before the start of the revolution, which led him to be arrested several times for political advocacy and subjected to a travel ban for over a decade, which was lifted on the condition of non-return. He took part in the Syrian revolution from its inception and was one of the first political figures to be arrested, only three days since its start. During the uprising, he was subjected to imprisonment several times and he was shot. Before he secretly left Syria for Jordan in 2012, Mr. Al Herakey was invited to the first “Samir Amis” Conference of the Opposition and was invited to establish the National Coordinating Committee and participated to the establishment of the National Rescue Conference. He also participated in signing the National Covenant with many Islamic and national figures.
